Happy Belated Independence Day!
Praying for peace both inside and out
Finding sparks in change, community, and LA’s sky
Warmest welcome without being unbearably impractical
Sometimes we’re busy looking for just the right color in our palettes.
Hello Framily,
I hope July has been kind to you so far—and if it hasn't, may this message be a soft landing spot for your thoughts.
🎄 Holiday Card Extravaganza: Shaping Up!
Our Holiday Card Extravaganza in September is still taking shape! Thank you to those who’ve already shared ideas, techniques, and enthusiasm. I’m holding space for more submissions, so if you’ve got a cool idea—anything from layered pop-ups to watercolor messages from your inner child—I’d love to include it. Even unfinished thoughts or sketches are welcome. Creative Hump is all about process, not perfection.
🔗 Submit your idea here (or just reply to this email with pics, prompts, or links)
While we often talk about creative tools here, today I want to highlight some community care resources I’ve found invaluable lately.
Thanks to SHARE! in Los Angeles, they will be holding the following events and proving the following resources:
A free clothing giveaway (no questions asked- Friday July 11 3pm-7pm)
Food resources for individuals and families (ie. Filling Station Mondays 2pm-4pm at 5831 W Centinela Ave. Los Angeles, CA)
A robust list of support groups (both in-person and online)
Topics range from grief, anxiety, and trauma to career burnout, codependency, and more.
This is especially useful if you’re in Culver City or DTLA, but many of the virtual groups are open to anyone. If you or someone you know needs a soft place to land, reach out. I can point you in the right direction.
Restorative Sound Bath led by Kimberly (All are welcome)
Free Movie- “Better Man” with complimentary drinks, snacks, and community discussion. RSVP by contacting SHARE (310) 305-8878
🌍 Home, Movement, and the Pull of Place
Some of you know that I’ve been back and forth lately between LA and my “home-home” in New Jersey. It’s been an emotional ride—and part of a larger contemplation: a possible move back east. If we do, it would bring us closer to family...and yes, a little closer to Paris—a dream that has been quietly orbiting us for a decade.
I don’t know what’s happening yet. The west coast has been good to me. It’s where Creative Hump was born. Where I found my rhythm and many of you. And yet, change has a way of tugging at your sleeve and asking, "Are you ready yet?"

If you haven’t been to Target recently, maybe you didn’t know you could be bird watching.
✈️ A Flight, Fireworks, and a Crying Chorus
I couldn’t close this note without wishing you a happy belated 4th of July—and sharing a surreal slice of it. I happened to be on a plane descending into LA during the fireworks. Kids were crying, overwhelmed by the sight, while adults stared out the windows in awe.
It was haunting. A bit magical. A bit eerie.
Here’s a short video I took of that moment:
🎆 Watch the descent into LA lit up like a sparkler
Sometimes coming home feels like falling into a city on fire—and sometimes it feels like landing exactly where you're supposed to be.
What’s Coming Up Next Month:
Early previews from the Holiday Card Collection
A creative kit for people feeling stuck or overwhelmed
A poll about what kind of moveable feast you'd like to see from Creative Hump
A personal reflection on how to pack your life into two coasts—and still keep your art alive
Until then, stay soft, run wild, and walk weird.
We are not behind—we’re just somewhere between.
💛 Sandra
